Bought Two Demag AC 220-5 All Terrain Cranes | Crane Plus : US crane sales, rental and service company Scott-Macon Equipment has bought two Demag AC 220-5 all-terrain cranes from manufacturer Terex Cranes. The new order joins the company’s existing Terex order for an AC 160-5 and AC 220-5. The Demag AC 220-5 is in the 245 US tons (220 tonnes) capacity class and has a boom length of 255.9 feet (78 metres). Terex said this is the longest main boom reach of any five-axle crane on the market. With boom extensions the crane’s reach can be extended to a 324.8 ft (99 m). The AC 220-5 also has a single engine with an intelligent motor management system to reduce operational and maintenance costs, says Terex, plus all-axle steering, independent rear-axle steering and dynamic launch control. Scott-Macon Equipment is also a distributor of Terex cranes and, according to Terex, the Demag AC 220-5 will be available from them soon. Bought Two Demag AC 220-5 All Terrain Cranes. In their nearly third decade of operation (founded in 1990), BAR-S specializes in erecting and dismantling oil rigs, supporting the oil and gas industry in northeastern Colorado and Wyoming. When not supporting the oil and gas industry, the company operates their new ATC-3275 as a taxi crane covering a 300 mile working radius. “Our primary work is moving drilling rigs, but we also work with other transportation and production facilities moving large equipment,” said co-founder of BAR-S Services, Patty Smith. Bar-S uses the Link-Belt all-terrain crane to perform tandem lifts up to 240,000 lbs. (108 862 kg) and solo lifts up to 100,000 lbs. (45 359 kg) on rig moves. A drilling rig can have up to 50 lifts to disassemble and once Bar-S has the rig load

L&T Potain towers on the Statue of Unity in India

L&T Potain towers on the Statue of Unity in India Indian construction contractor Larsen & Toubro chose tower cranes to help build one of the world’s tallest monuments. The US$470 million Statue of Unity under construction in the Indian state of Gujarat will be 182 metres tall. It is a monument dedicated to Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel, a leader on the road to India’s independence before becoming the country’s first deputy prime minister. He was known as the Iron Man of India. L&T chose three 20 tonne capacity Potain MR 295 H20 luffing jib towers and a 10 tonne MC 205 B saddle jib tower crane for the job, which has already been running for a couple of years. The 20 tonne luffer is especially good for work in confined space, Potain said. The MR 295 is a mid-size model designed to have a compact counter jib. It had the required free standing height, as well as the right capacity and working envelope for this project, the manufacturer continued. Capacity at the end of the maximu

Tadano ATF 60G-3 now available | Crane Plus

Image
Tadano ATF 60G-3 now available | Crane Plus : Two years after its launch at Bauma 2016, the ATF 60G-3 from manufacturer Tadano is now available for sale. According to Tadano, the 60 tonne capacity ATF 60G-3 has a drive concept designed to optimise weight distribution, resulting in a 10 t axle load configuration. To acheive this required a redesign of the axle layout and placement of the engine. This means the ATF 60G-3 has two front axles and one rear axle, while the undercarriage and superstructure are driven by a rear engine installed on the superstructure. This setup, Tadano said, distributes the main boom’s weight more efficiently on the axles and shifts weight to the rear.  The ATF 60G-3 is equipped with a 20 t hook block in its 10 t axle load configuration, which enables it to lift up to 17.1 t, taking into account the maximum hoisting winch traction. In addition, the three-axle crane has been optimised for axle loads of 12 t, 13 t and 16.5 t, said Tadano.  Because the engine i

Eco crawler crane from Unic. | Crane Plus

Eco crawler crane from Unic. | Crane Plus : Unic Cranes Europe has launched a version of its Eco crane series with a crawler tracked carrier instead of one on wheels. The battery powered crane was developed with Japanese manufacturer Furukawa Unic. It lifts 2.9 tonnes and fits through a standard double doorway. Power is from a 48 volt rechargeable battery. Target applications include lifts indoors and outside in sensitive environments. Commenting on the new crane Graeme Riley, Unic Cranes Europe CEO, said, “The wheeled version of our Eco spider cranes have been well received by our customers throughout Europe. These machines were originally developed for use in environmentally sensitive areas such as food processing plants but, with an increasingly environmentally-conscious market place, we have seen growing demand for battery powered and hybrid options. “You only need to look at the automotive sector to see that there is a big drive towards developing more environmentally friendly a

Mammoet completes petrochemical job | Crane Plus

Image
Mammoet completes petrochemical job | Crane Plus : Heavy lift and transportation specialist Mammoet has completed the demolition and replacement of five heater furnaces in what it described as a ‘congested’ 86-year-old petrochemical plant located in Texas City, Texas, USA. According to Mammoet, the dimensional constraints in the refinery made crane construction challenging as there was no space to lay down the booms and jibs to assemble the two CC8800 lattice boom crawler cranes it needed to use for the job. Mammoet’s solution was to assemble the two CC8800 lattice boom crawler cranes in the air, using two other cranes to lift the jibs and booms. This, Mammoet said, enabled it to salvage and install larger sections of the furnaces, cutting the project’s duration by more than a month. Once assembled the two CC8800s were on the site for several months and carried out more than 50 critical lifts. Mammoet completes petrochemical job. 25 Tips For Tackling Crane Safety | Crane Plus

25 Tips For Tackling Crane Safety | Crane Plus : Cranes are powerful machines, capable of impressive feats that define the skylines of our cities and enable entire industries to function. Unfortunately, mistakes and negligence do occur when cranes are not treated with the respect and due diligence required. Here are 25 tips for tackling crane safety: 1.  Start with a plan:-  Every lift is different. Every lift should have a lift plan. Load capacities, integrity of equipment and job site conditions are just a few factors that need to be reviewed prior to agreeing to doing any job.  2.  Make Sure You Have the Proper Personnel:-  Is your crane operator NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification for Crane Operators) certified? Are all their necessary certifications up-to-date? Is the operator familiar with the chosen piece of equipment? 3.  Use the Right Crane:-  When qualifying cranes, make sure it has the correct configurations needed to perform all the lifts and that the heavies

Launches large loader cranes | Crane Plus

Launches large loader cranes | Crane Plus : Hydraulic loader crane manufacturer HMF has announced two new big cranes, the HMF 7020 and HMF 9520. Both are built for heavy and repetitive work. High capacity for low weight is an aim of the HMF design of these 50 and 75 tonne-metre range cranes. At a horizontal outreach of 20.1 metres the 9520K8-RCS with eight extensions lifts 2,860 kg. The 7020K8-RCS with eight extensions lifts 2,050 kg at a maximum horizontal outreach of 20.4 m. Fly jibs are available on both. New features include PowerHoist, PowerSwing and PowerDisplay. The first is for winch-equipped cranes and winds in the wire rope as the crane is folded in. PowerSwing is proportionally distributes hydraulic oil so that outrigger functions can be operated at the same time. PowerDisplay is a new colour screen designed to make controlling the crane easier and to speed up operation. A new two-speed slewing system offers better speed control and more precise positioning, the Danish man
