Liebherr Lattice Boom Hoists Giant Lock Gates | Crane Plus:

All six gates on the barrage of the fishing and yacht dock had to be removed for the refurbishment of the dock gates in Büsum. A Liebherr LG 1750 lattice boom mobile crane had a genuine challenge on its hands, namely hoisting the 90 tonne steel gates. With a radius of 67 metres, the massive crane had to manage a gross load of over 100 tonnes. Over the last few months the lock gates on the barrage at the dock in Büsum have been undergoing general refurbishment, some 35 years after being commissioned. Crane contractor Nolte from Hanover sent three Liebherr cranes to the site on the North Sea coast for the hoisting work involved in the process. In addition to the LG 1750 lattice boom mobile crane, an LTM 1200-5.1 was also on the site to take care of the set-up work. An MK 88 mobile construction crane was also used on the gates to complete minor hoisting work and build the so-called emergency barrier. The emergency barrier, made of…

Transportes Noroccidental buys Terex RTs | Crane Plus:

Ecuadorian heavy transport company Transportes has bought four Terex RT 100US rough terrain cranes. According to the manufacturer, Noroccidental chose this particular model because of its load capacities compared to similar sized units and the service support the company receives from its local Terex distributor. The RT 100US has a 90 tonne capacity and a five-section hydraulic boom that extends to 47 metres. They will be used by Transportes Noroccidental for work in the oil sector. “We own several Terex crane models and are happy with the performance and durability of these machines,” said Edgar Fabian Andrade, CEO of Transportes Noroccidental.

Uses Demag CC 3800-1 Crawler | Crane Plus:

UAE-based crane service provider Al Faris lifted three 72-metre-long spud legs weighing 130 tonnes each. The spud legs were lifted from a barge at Hamriyah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Al Faris used its Demag CC 3800-1 crawler crane for the job. The crane has a nominal capacity of 650 tonnes and a maximum load moment of 8484 tm. The crawler was first transported 82 km from Al Faris’s location in Dubai Industrial City to the job site. The journey took over ten hours using Al Faris’s lowbed trailers. The company then used a team of ten and its own all terrain cranes to set the CC 3800-1 up. The team set the main boom to be 108 metres long and used a Superlift mast with a length of 36 metres. The central ballast totalled 50 tonnes, the Superlift counterweight 325 tonnes, and the counterweight on the superstructure 165 tonnes. The CC 3800-1 then lifted the three spud legs at a maximum radius of 50 metres, swung them to one side, and set them in …

LIEBHERR LTM 1350-6.1 IN ACTION | Crane Plus:

A Liebherr mobile crane operated by heavy haulage contractor Prangl installed several large storage and retrieval vehicles in a new high-bay shelving warehouse in Frastanz, Austria, a village in the west of the country near the border with the Principality of Lichtenstein. An LTM 1350-6.1 with a 42-metre luffing jib completed the work. The storage and retrieval vehicles weighing around ten tonnes had to be positioned precisely for installation through openings in the roof of a newly built high-bay shelving warehouse. The 28-metre elements were swung into a vertical position using a Liebherr LTM 1070-4.1 mobile crane, which also completed the set-up work on the larger mobile crane. A total of eight of these storage and retrieval vehicles had to be hoisted into the modern industrial building using radii of up to 40 metres. To complete this job, the LTM 1350-6.1 was assembled with a 42-metre luffing jib and ballasted with counterweights weighing…

Recovery continues at Terex Cranes | Crane Plus:

Terex has reported its first half results with crane sale continuing their recent upward trend.

Sales in the first six months were 14.5 percent higher than in the same period last year at $649.3 million, but operating losses increased from $16.5 to $22 million.

Second quarter revenues increased by almost 11 percent to $335.3 million driven by higher demand which was constrained by supply chain challenges. Last year’s operating profit of $15.4 million was converted to a loss of $12.3 million this year. The backlog at the end of June was $602 million - 31 percent higher than at this time last year, but six percent lower than at the end of the first quarter.  The Terex group as a whole saw revenue rise 22 percent to $2.66 billion with pre-tax profits almost five times the level of last year at $143.8 million. Net debt more than doubled to $717.1 million due to substantially lower cash on deposit.

Terex chief executive John Garrison said: “Ter…
