Bribie Island’s iconic lighthouse taken down after 30 years | Crane Plus : Bribie Island’s iconic lighthouse has been removed after erosion at the island’s northern tip created a dangerous situation. The structure had been there since 1987, but was replaced in June last year by a new solar-powered beacon, which sits about four kilometers out to sea.A Maritime Safety Queensland spokesman said the decommissioned northwest lead light navigation beacon was removed on June 1. “The decision was made to ensure it did not pose a risk to the public or the environment if further deterioration occurred,” he said. “The metal light-housing and pillar were removed by crane from the top of the concrete base which sits on large concrete pylons.   “The pylons and concrete base will be left in place for the immediate future to minimise disturbance of the sand dunes. “Some further works to ensure public safety such as installing signs will be undertaken in coming weeks.” Claytons Towing had the job of

Manitowoc Has Opened A New Factory In India | Crane Plus : Manitowoc has opened a new Potain tower crane factory in the Indian city of Chakan, which lies outside Pune, with production beginning in first-quarter 2018. This facility replaces the company’s previous factory in Pune, which opened back in 2007. With a smaller land area as well as new equipment and lean processes, the new facility produces Potain MCT 85 and MC 125 cranes more efficiently and with even greater quality. Kobelco restructuring in China moves forward | Crane Plus : Kobelco has completed most of its restructuring process in China, ending all of its joint ventures moving from seven jointly held operations to three simpler, wholly owned subsidiaries - although the leasing business will have a partner with a 24 percent stake. Kobelco Construction Machinery (China) in Chengdu, which will manufacture, sell and service hydraulic excavators has started taking over the crane sales and service business.  Hangzhou Kobelco Construction Machinery will manufacture excavators and component parts in Hangzhou. Chengdu Kobelco Construction Machinery Financial Leasing will be a machinery leasing operation, with its base in Chengdu. Kobelco crane manufacturing in China was discontinued in 2016, while Shanghai-based sales and service company Kobelco Cranes (Shanghai) is being liquidated, with its operations merged into Kobelco Construction Machinery (China). Adds Kato City Crane To Fleet | Crane Plus : Welsh crane hire and rental firm B&A Cranes has added to its fleet with the purchase of a Kato CR-350Ri. The 35-tonne capacity city crane was supplied by Kato’s European distributor, Rivertek Services, which is headquartered in Ireland. The Kato CR-350Ri has a 32.5-metre-long six-section boom and a three-section telescopic jib that extends from 6.5 to 14 metres and can be offset by up to 60 degrees. B&A Cranes is a family owned company that has been operating cranes in Swansea and the surrounding area for over 20 years. It has a fleet of cranes ranging from 13 tonnes to 80 tonnes. The fleet already includes a 13-tonne capacity Kato and a 20-tonne capacity Kato. Haulotte sells Italian rental business | Crane Plus : Haulotte has sold 100 percent of its Italian access rental company No.Ve. S.r.l. to Loxam.  Rome based Nove was established in 1998 and has been controlled by Haulotte since 2006. The company employs 45 across six locations in Rome, Naples, Chieti, Bologna, Florence and Milan, with a fleet of around 1,000 aerial lifts and telehandlers.  Haulotte deputy chief executive Alexandre Saubot said: “The divestment of Nove is in line with Haulotte strategic targets and will allow the group to focus on its core business in Europe. With this operation, Haulotte reinforces the close relationship built since several years with Loxam. The initiative is a collaborative effort with crane owners, equipment manufacturers and trainers both in Australia and overseas, to increase onsite safety by introducing recorded machine specific assessments that confirm and document competency on a specific crane.  The assessment modules are designed reflect the current state of knowledge and best practice and are crane model specific. All operator assessments are filmed, documented and accessible on a CrewSafe app, so that site supervisors and crane operators have a centralised point of reference accessible from their mobile phones. Two New Liebherr Models On Their Way | Crane Plus : The new crawler is the 800 tonne capacity LR 1800-1.0. The crane is three metres wide and has a maximum transport weight of 45 tonnes once its tracks have been removed. In standard configuration the crane has an 84 metre luffing jib and an 84 metre boom, which comprises three lattice sections that can be telescoped for transport.
